Turning Weaknesses Into Strengths In a Business

A lot of times, we don’t turn our weaknesses into strengths.  I firmly believe that everyone has a skill set that is marketable and for whatever reason, whether it be snobbery, familial expectations, or social acceptance, we reject what is in our nature.

Take for example the seemingly menial task of housekeeping.  A lot of people do not find enjoyment out of doing household chores.  Therefore, house cleaning would be a perfect avenue to make money for those who have the knack of putting things in order.  If there’s a need, then fulfill it.  And the cleaning industry is hungry to fill this need.  It has the makeup of a repeatable customers and growth aspects due to hectic lifestyles and let’s not forget plain old laziness.  For a billion dollar industry, wouldn’t you like to get a piece of the pie?

So perhaps you have been labeled in the past as being a neat freak or overly nitpicky with your household cleaning.  Have you ever thought of turning this seemingly minor character flaw into a positive where your attention to detail would be appreciated and recognized?  Have you ever gone to a job board to find a house cleaning job?  Granted, a cleaning profession is not what one imagines doing but as mentioned, this is a billion dollar industry and the jobs can be quite lucrative.

If cleaning for other people is not your thing, perhaps you can set up a housekeeping business where you manage the business side of things.  You would have the cleaning knowledge and you can set standard in how things should be cleaned according to your level of detail.

Instead of fighting who we are, we should all embrace who we are meant to be.  Even for something as decidedly mundane as housekeeping, it can be financially rewarding as well.  So what are your supposed “weaknesses” that you can turn into strengths?
